Who we are?
Oratnitza has been active since 2009. Its mission is to reimagine and promote Bulgarian folk music, bring it closer to contemporary and younger generations, and present it to the widest possible international audience.
At the heart of Oratnitza's sound lies the Australian didgeridoo. Evoking both an ancient call rooted in Indigenous traditions and the roar of an electronic bass, the didge brings together pulsating rave and techno rhythms with pastoral drones.
Where the deep, rumbling frequencies of the didge meet the soaring, deeply emotional voice of the Bulgarian kaval flute, the sound of Oratnitza is born. Traditional female two-part singing from different regions of Bulgaria gives voice to the stories Oratnitza has to tell. The driving force behind their music is the synergy between the acoustic and electronic sound.
The band defines this unique blend as "ETHNOBASS" - a genre of their own, exploring a wide palette of styles. Among them: drum and bass, hip-hop, afrobeat, techno, psychedelic, breakbeat and Byzantine chants.
For many years, Oratnitza has been presenting its music across Europe, at major and small festivals and clubs, as well as in the USA, Canada, Russia and Southeast Asia.
